2018 - Ictus International Music Competition
Samuel Santiago is a Senior at Glenelg High School. He has been playing trumpet for seven years, studying under Scott Lawrence and Brent Flinchbaugh. Samuel has been selected for All State for the past four years, and currently he was selected as first chair trumpet in the state. He will be performing in March in the All State Band as principal trumpet. This February, Samuel won first prize in the brass category of the Gaithersburg Young Artist Award Competition. He also is first chair in his high school band and orchestra and volunteers his time as a pit orchestra musician for his high school musicals. Samuel is also a member of the Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestra 2018-19 season.
Samuel is an academically high-achieving student. He also enjoys athletics including tennis and track. He is the middle of three children. His father is of Cuban descent and his mother is from the Washington DC area. Both parents are pianists and they collaborate with him regularly. Samuel aspires to double major in trumpet along with an undecided STEM major.
He is thrilled to be a finalist of the Ictus International Trumpet Competition.
