Official Competition Rules

Last updated: June 20, 2017

1. Introduction

These are the Official Competition Rules governing the Ictus International Music Competition (the “Competition”) presented by Ictus Music, Inc., 150 Monument Road, Suite #207, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004 (“Ictus”). The Competition is a new and innovative online contest wherein musical ensembles are judged based on online video submissions. Participants in the Competition are eligible to receive prize money, written feedback from experienced judges, and opportunities to be interviewed by Ictus. Additionally, Ictus may post participants’ video submissions online and via social media in order to share them with as broad an audience as possible. The ultimate purpose of the Competition is to provide participants with opportunities to be heard and to increase the profile and perception of music education and classical music generally.

By making a submission to the Competition, you agree to comply with all of the terms and conditions stated in these Official Competition Rules, as well as with any terms proffered by third-party submission platform Acceptd.

2. Eligibility

The 2017 competition will be open to Orchestras and Wind Ensembles as hereinafter defined in the following categories:

  2. Community Ensemble (at least 75% of the ensemble members must be both over the age of 18 and participating on a volunteer basis)
  3. Youth Ensemble (students from 3 or more schools all aged 19 or younger)
  4. High School (majority of students aged 14-18)
  5. Middle School (majority of students aged 14 or younger)

For this Competition, an ensemble competing in the Orchestra category may or may not include brass, woodwinds, and percussion instruments, but in any event must have 10 or more musicians in total.

For the purposes of the Competition, Ictus defines a “Wind Ensemble” as an instrumental performing ensemble consisting of members of the woodwind, brass, and percussion families of instruments. For this Competition, an ensemble competing in the Wind Ensemble category may or may not include the double bass, but in any event must have 10 or more musicians in total.

Ensembles not qualifying as either an Orchestra or a Wind Ensemble are not presently eligible to compete in the Competition. By submitting a video for adjudication, you warrant that you are eligible to enter the Competition.

THE CONTEST AND ANY PERTINENT TERMS OF THESE OFFICIAL COMPETITION RULES ARE VOID WHERE PROHIBITED.

3. Repertoire

Ensembles may submit no more than 25 minutes’ worth of music. Time can be allocated between one or more compositions, or one or more movements within a composition.
