Ictus International Music Competition
Official Competition Rules
Last updated: June 20, 2017
These are the Official Competition Rules governing the Ictus International Music Competition (the “Competition”) presented by Ictus Music, Inc., 150 Monument Road, Suite #207, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004 (“Ictus”). The Competition is a new and innovative online contest wherein musical ensembles are judged based on online video submissions. Participants in the Competition are eligible to receive prize money, written feedback from experienced judges, and opportunities to be interviewed by Ictus. Additionally, Ictus may post participants’ video submissions online and via social media in order to share them with as broad an audience as possible. The ultimate purpose of the Competition is to provide participants with opportunities to be heard and to increase the profile and perception of music education and classical music generally.
By making a submission to the Competition, you agree to comply with all of the terms and conditions stated in these Official Competition Rules, as well as with any terms proffered by third-party submission platform Acceptd.
The 2017 competition will be open to Orchestras and Wind Ensembles as hereinafter defined in the following categories:
- University/College/Conservatory (majority of students aged 18 or older)
- Community Ensemble (at least 75% of the ensemble members must be both over the age of 18 and participating on a volunteer basis)
- Youth Ensemble (students from 3 or more schools all aged 19 or younger)
- High School (majority of students aged 14-18)
- Middle School (majority of students aged 14 or younger)
For the purposes of the Competition, Ictus defines an “Orchestra” as an instrumental ensemble that features traditional orchestral string instruments such as violin, viola, cello and double bass. For this Competition, an ensemble competing in the Orchestra category may or may not include brass, woodwinds, and percussion instruments, but in any event must have 10 or more musicians in total.
For the purposes of the Competition, Ictus defines a “Wind Ensemble” as an instrumental performing ensemble consisting of members of the woodwind, brass, and percussion families of instruments. For this Competition, an ensemble competing in the Wind Ensemble category may or may not include the double bass, but in any event must have 10 or more musicians in total.
Ensembles not qualifying as either an Orchestra or a Wind Ensemble are not presently eligible to compete in the Competition. By submitting a video for adjudication, you warrant that you are eligible to enter the Competition.
THE CONTEST AND ANY PERTINENT TERMS OF THESE OFFICIAL COMPETITION RULES ARE VOID WHERE PROHIBITED.
Ensembles may submit no more than 25 minutes’ worth of music. Time can be allocated between one or more compositions, or one or more movements within a composition. However, each movement or composition should be uploaded as a separate video file with your application. Please choose repertoire that suits your ensemble’s instrumentation and level of ability.
Note: No solo or concerto repertoire will be accepted. Submissions must feature the full ensemble.
4. Contest Term
You must submit a high-quality video of your performance (a "Submission") that complies with the requirements of these Official Competition Rules not later than July 10, 2017 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time (the "Submission Deadline") using the means described in these Official Competition Rules. Submissions will be judged after the Submission Deadline, with finalists selected and notified by August 1, 2017. Winners will be notified and prize money will be dispersed on September 1, 2017.

The License will commence on the date you make your Submission.
By making your Submission, you represent and warrant that you have the right to grant the licenses addressed in these Official Competition Rules.
You will indemnify, defend, and hold Ictus harmless from and against any losses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) associated with any third-party action (a) arising out of your breach of any representation, warranty, or provision addressed in these Official Competition Rules; or (b) asserting or arising out of any claim that your Submission infringes or violates any law, regulation, or third-party right, including any intellectual property right.

Additionally, Ictus may require each Winner to complete, execute, and return an Affidavit of Eligibility, a Liability Release, and, where lawful, a Publicity Release, as well as certain other documentation reasonably requested by Ictus. Failure to respond to Ictus in a timely manner or failure to return documents in a timely manner may result in disqualification and selection of an alternate winner in the applicable Category(s).
Each Category Winner agrees to grant to Ictus and those acting pursuant to its direction or control, the right to print, publish, broadcast and use, worldwide in all media formats now known or hereafter created, at any time or times, the Winner’s name, portrait, picture, voice, likeness and biographical information as news or information and for advertising, trade and promotional purposes without additional consideration, and without notification, review, or approval.
